Robert K. Friedman, L.C.S.W.
Robert Friedman, L.C.S.W., is a highly trained and
experienced Psychotherapist (Licensed Clinical
Social Worker), with over 35 years of experience. He
received his Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work at the
University of Chicago and he received his post-graduate
training while on the staff and faculty in the University of
Chicago's Department of Psychiatry. He works
with patients/clients of all ages and with their families as
needed, to construct a plan for therapy. Through a
combination of insight-oriented and cognitive approaches to
reduce stress, he helps people to address and better
understand the conflicts and emotions that they confront in
their lives. He is guided by principals of caring,
self-determination and Mental Health rather than Mental
Illness, deficits and weakness. He assists his patients in
identifying their strengths, especially those personal strengths
that can be used to compensate for areas of stress. When
appropriate and as needed, Bob appreciates the benefits of
medication, and he collaborates with physicians while
maintaining a non-medical, non-diagnosis driven (humanistic)
approach to psychological well-being. Bob has worked in both
Inpatient and Outpatient Psychiatric settings and as a
teacher and consultant to experienced Mental Heath
practitioners as well as to those in training. He brings a
broad range of theoretical frameworks to his practice. While
listening to what his patients think and feel, he hopes to
openly share his various perspectives, what he thinks, and
why. Bob's office setting is both casual and professional
while being warm and inviting. The goal of the therapy
environment is to create an open, confidential and safe
atmosphere. In addition to Bob's commitment as a therapist,
he also draws upon his considerable personal experience as a
parent. Above all, Bob is committed to the concept that
Therapy takes place in the context of a helping relationship
where there is an honest and open conversation.
